Sgr police seize property of peddler worth Rs 19 lakh

Srinagar, Dec 14: As part of a noteworthy crackdown against drug trafficking, Srinagar Police has attached a single-storey residential house worth Rs 19 lakh belonging to an infamous drug peddler under the NDPS Act.

The property was seized as part of an investigation revealing its acquisition through proceeds from the illegal drug trade.

In a statement issued, in its relentless efforts to curb the menace of drug peddling, Police in Srinagar has attached a single-storeyed residential house valuing about Rs 19 lakh, belonging to a chronic drug peddler namely Mohammad Younis Wani, son of Mohammad Maqbool Wani, resident of Ranbirgarh, Srinagar, in case FIR No. 85/2024 under the NDPS Act.

It reads as: The accused person is a drug peddler who has been found involved in selling drugs and narcotics among the youth, for which case FIR No. 85/2024 under sections 8/21 of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPSA) stands registered in Police Station Shalteng, Srinagar.

“During financial investigation by Srinagar Police, it came to the fore that the property was acquired through proceeds of the illegal narcotics trade. The drug peddler is presently lodged in Central Jail Srinagar under the NDPS Act,” the statement reads.

It also reads as: The aforementioned property has been attached under the provisions of section 68 of the NDPS Act in the presence of Executive Magistrate 1st Class. In compliance with section 68 E and 68 F of the NDPS Act, the immovable property acquired by the accused person through illegal means, which stands seized and attached, shall not be transferred/sold/purchased or otherwise dealt with without the prior permission of the competent authority.

“These decisive actions underscore the unwavering commitment of the government and J&K Police to eradicate the drug menace and dismantle the infrastructure supporting narcotic trafficking,” the statement reads further.
