Veteran NC leader Rahim Rather set to be elected as Speaker

Srinagar, Nov 03: Veteran National Conference leader and seven-time MLA Abdul Rahim Rather is set to be elected as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly on Monday. The National Conference-led ruling alliance has taken the first step for the election of former minister and seven-time MLA Abdul Rahim Rather as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly by giving a notice in writing to the Legislative Assembly secretariat.

As per KNO, Minister for Rural Development Department and Panchayat Raj, Javaid Ahmad Dar has submitted a notice in the Legislative Assembly secretariat for moving a motion for the election of Rather as Speaker of the House. The motion, as per the notice, would be seconded by Arjun Singh Raju, National Conference MLA from Ramban.

With the BJP deciding against contesting for the post, Rather will be elected as the Speaker tomorrow after the motion is moved and seconded.
