Srinagar, Nov 02: An unidentified terrorist was killed in an encounter at Khanyar area of Srinagar, officials said Saturday.

An official told KNO that an unidentified terrorist was killed after intense exchange of firing in Khanyar area of old Srinagar.

A top official said that body of slain terrorist was retrieved along with arms and ammunition.

Earlier, police had stated that that acting on a tip off about the presence of terrorists in Khanyar area of Srinagar, a cordon and search operation was launched. Police wrote on X that a cordon and search operation in Khayar area of Srinagar district has resulted in an exchange of fire. “Police and security forces are on the job. Further details to follow.”

Today’s encounter is the first in Srinagar after September 15, 2022 when two terrorists were killed in a gunfight at Nowgam area of the district. On May 19, 2020, an ecounter in Nawakadal area of old city saw killing of two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists.
