Srinagar, Oct 07: The Department of Wildlife Protection on Monday said that the wild boars seen roaming along Srinagar’s Boulevard and Foreshore Road are native to Dachigam National Park and surrounding Conservation Reserves, where they have lived since the Maharaja’s era.

The clarification comes after a viral video of the boars sparked public concern.

“These animals tend to venture outside the park during the fruit harvesting season in search of food. In response, rescue teams equipped with tranquilizing guns and trapping cages have been dispatched to safely guide the animals back to nearby forests,” a Wildlife officer said.

The department urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation, assuring that all precautions are being taken to ensure no confrontation occurs.

“Multiple teams are deployed to protect residents and agricultural crops, and citizens are advised to cooperate with wildlife personnel,” said an official.
