SMC marks 5th Int’l Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies

Srinagar, Sep 07: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) celebrated the 5th International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies on Saturday with an event attended by Ghulam Jeelani, Joint Commissioner SMC, Divisional Forest Officer,Chief Sanitation Officer,Range Officer along with other officials of SMC and Forest Department.

This year’s theme, “Invest in Clean Air Now,” highlights the urgent need for effectivemeasures to improve air quality, SMC distributed 500 plants to Ward Officers, encouraging them to plant these throughout Srinagar as a symbol of commitment to a greener, healthier environment.

The plant distribution is part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting biodiversity and encouraging community involvement in environmental conservation. By creating more green spaces, SMC seeks to improve air quality and enhance overall living conditions for its citizens.

Shri Ghulam Jeelani stressed the importance of collective action in combating air pollution, stating, “As we observe this day, let’s remember that clean air is a fundamental right for all. We have a responsibility to invest in sustainable practices for the health of future generations.”

The SMC remains dedicated to building a sustainable future for all residents of Srinagar.
