Congress candidate from Tral issued notice for MCC violation, asked to respond within 24 hrs

Srinagar, Aug 31: The authorities on Saturday issued a notice to Surinder Singh, the Indian National Congress (INC) candidate for Tral, for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). He has been asked to respond in writing within 24 hours.

According to the notice, as per KNO, Sajid Yehaya Naqash, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sub-District Tral, who serves as the Returning Officer stated that the violation was observed through videographic evidence gathered by the General Observer at Batgund, Tral, on August 31, 2024.

Singh and his party, as per the notice were accused of using vehicles fitted with public address systems and banners for campaigning without seeking prior permission, a direct contravention of MCC guidelines.

Keeping in view the seriousness of the violation and directs, Surinder Singh through the medium of notice was asked to respond in writing within 24 hours to explain why no action should be taken against him and his party.

“Failure to respond within the stipulated time may result in the initiation of legal proceedings”, it further read.
