Srinagar, Jul 19: In continuation of its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Kulgam police have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A police party of Police station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Upper Bazar Qazigund intercepted one motorcyclist identified as Sahil Ahmad Lone Son of Abdul Rashid Lone resident of Dalwach, Qazigund carrying a nylon bag. After search, 1.4 KGs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance was recovered. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody. Also vehicle used in commission of crime has been seized, a police spokesman said in a statement.

Accordingly, police said a case vide FIR number 189/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Qazigund and investigation has been taken up.

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
