Srinagar: The State government has ordered appointment of Mohammad Ashraf Mir, formerly Commissioner Revenue Department, as State Information Commissioner in the State Information Commission.
According to an SRO-427 issued here, Governor N N Vohra, in exercise of the powers vested in him under Jammu and Kashmir Right to Information Act, 2009 appointed Mohammad Ashraf Mir as State
Information Commissioner in the SIC,
Mir’s appointment as State Information Commissioner shall take effect from the date he assumes charge of the post, the SRO added.
In February this year, retired IAS officer Khursheed A Ganai was appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner of the state.
The J&K State Information Commission had been non-functional since November, 2016 when the lone Information Commissioner Nazir Ahmed completed his term.
Out of two Information Commissioners and one CIC, S K Sharma completed his term as Information Commissioner on October 31, 2015 and Chief Information Commissioner G R Sufi on February 29, 2016.
Prof (Dr) S K Sharma former Professor law Jammu University  and Nazir Ahmad former Chief Engineer PWD were appointed as Information Commissioners on 24 October 2011 and 18 November 2011 respectively. Dr S K Sharma completed 65 years of his age he retired from the post of Information Commissioner by the end of October 2015.
The State Information Commission was established under the provisions of J&K Right to Information Act 2009.
