STD Kashmir collects Rs 3.85 Cr penalties from GST defaulters till November 2023

Srinagar, Dec 26: State Taxes Department (STD) Kashmir has recovered a penalty of Rs 3.86 Crores from April 2023 to November 2023 from GST defaulters for not carrying proper documents like GST invoices and e-way bills.

This also includes Special Enforcement Drives conducted against Hotels in Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Brick Kilns of Central Kashmir particularly in Budgam District. Furthermore surprise inspections were also conducted against the Coaching Centers operating in the valley.

There has been a remarkable increase of 124% in penalties imposed as compared to last Fiscal year whereas there has been increase of 46.13% increase in penalties recovered. The Major sectors on which penalties have been imposed are metal Scrap, Electric, Electronics goods, hotels, brick-kilns, construction material, etc.

Additional Commissioner, State Taxes Department Administration & Enforcement, Kashmir Shakeel Maqbool appreciated the performance and urged upon the Officers/Officials to redouble their efforts of enforcement action in order to create strong deterrence with special emphasis on transporters who are carrying goods without proper invoices and e-way bills. He also called for setting up surprise Nakas on the various transition points.
