Srinagar: The newly elected office bearers of Kashmir High Court Bar Association on Tuesday took oath of office.
A spokesman of the lawyers body said that Mian Abdul Qayoom, Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, Ghulam Nabi Shaheen, Adil Asimi, and Sameer Ahmad Wani were administered the oath of office of President, Vice President, General Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer respectively by the Election Commission of the Bar Association at Subordinate Court Complex, Moominabad Batamaloo here.
After taking the oath of office, the newly elected office bearers assured the Bar members that they will work for the unity of the lawyers body and will not indulge in any activity, which will be prejudicial to the interests of the association. They stated that they are aware of the problems of the members of the Bar and they will work cohesively and unitedly, to remove their difficulties and problems. They also stated that they will strive hard for the peaceful resolution of Kashmir and in this behalf, hold Conferences and Seminars to persuade the Indian masses and the international community to put pressure on Indian government to resolve the Kashmir crisis in accordance with the United Nations Security Council Resolutions, the spokesman said.
The elected office bearers also condemned the incidents of braid chopping all over the State and described the same as a crime against the humanity.
It was also stated that the State government has miserably failed in its duty to protect the people from the onslaught of this “terror” tactic and that it was basically a game plan of the “Indian Intelligence Agencies, who are always finding ways and means to divert the attention of the people from seeking their right of self-determination for resolving the Kashmir issue”.
“The braid chopping has started in the State and despite protests all over the State, it has not stopped.”
It was also stated that at many places, where the braid choppers were caught by the people, they were later freed by army, who resorted to aerial firing and also fired some kind of shells to disperse the locals as a result of which the captive men managed to escape, the spokesman said.
“It was also stated that at many places, the culprits were handed over to the police, but they too were released by them, on the ground that they were not involved in braid chopping, though, they had been caught red-handed.”
It was also stated that more than 40 FIRs have been registered in the matter in different police stations all over the State and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe into the incidents of braid chopping, but till date the police has neither arrested anyone nor produced any of the culprits before the Court.
It was also stated that by not acting against the culprits, it was clear that the police and other agencies are in hand-and-glove with each other and on the one hand the people are threatened and terrorized and on the other, the braid choppers are provided protection, which was indicative of the fact that the State functionaries in one or the other way, are involved in the crime, the aim and object of which was not only to intimidate the women folk and force them to remain indoors and even abandon the education and other pursuits of life, which act of the State should be condemned by one and all.
