Army Beat Civilian’, FIR For Causing Hurt, Wrongful Restraint Filed: Police

Srinagar, Aug 22: Police on Thursday registered case for voluntarily causing hurt and wrongful restraint following an incident in which “some army personnel in uniform reportedly beat one civilian while other personnel present also got involved in minor fight” at Nowgam Chowk Srinagar.”

“Today afternoon an incident came to notice wherein some army personnel in uniform reportedly beat one civilian while other personnel present also got involved in minor fight at Nowgam chowk,” police said in a statement issued here.

“On receipt of this information, cognisance of incident was taken and a case under FIR number 116/2022 under sections 323 (voluntary causing hurt),341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint) of IPC was registered in Nowgam Police station. “Investigation has been taken up,” the police said.

The brief police statement followed video on social media, circulated by many users including National Conference leader who said: “Such behaviour from army is highly unwarranted”.

In the video some army men are seen in altercation with a load carrier driver and all of a sudden a personnel rush to the spot and forcefully strikes couple of blows near the neck of a person.
