Srinagar, July 21: Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world, shall remain closed for traffic on Friday, officials said.

The thoroughfare was blocked by shooting stones, landslides in Ramban district, especially at Mehad area since Wednesday night.

“Tomorrow (July 22) no vehicular movement shall be allowed from either side on Jammu-Srinagar highway in view of road blockage at Mehad, Ramban due to intermittent shooting stones,” a traffic department official said in a statement.

However he said public will be informed through “social media” in case the road opens.”

Hundreds of vehicles are stranded at different points of the highway, sources said.

Meanwhile authorities said that traffic shall be allowed on both sides on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road and Mughal road subject to fair weather and good road conditions. Moreover, they said, Heavy Motor vehicles shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Poonch on Mughal road. “LMVs followed by HMVs will be released from Herpora (Shopian) towards Poonch at 0500 hours upto 1700 hours and LMVs shall be allowed from Behramgalla (Buffiaz) Poonch towards Srinagar at  0500 hours upto 1700 hours.”
