Srinagar, Mar 22: A policeman who was critically injured on Tuesday in a “brief shootout” with militants near Zoonimar area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district lost battle for life at SKIMS Soura, officials said.

“In a brief shootout at Soura area of Srinagar City, SgCT Amir Hussain Lone of Kupwara got injured and (died). We pay rich tributes to (him) & stand by his family at this critical juncture,” police said in a tweet.

A top police officer said that the selection grade constable Aamir Hussian, who had bullets injuries in upper parts of body including neck, succumbed to the wounds at SKIMS Soura. “Even though doctors tried their best and revived him for several minutes, he has passed away.”

Senior doctor at SKIMS, Dr G H Yatoo, also confirmed that the 30-year-old policeman has died.

Earlier the police officer said that there was a brief shootout in which the policeman was critically injured and later shifted to nearby SKIMS Soura.

The officer said that militant was also injured and probably escaped from the spot. Meanwhile, he said, the whole area has been cordoned off to nab the fleeing militant(s).
