“PSO has been placed under suspension with immediate effect,” Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said.

The BJP Sarpanch and his wife (Panch) from Redwani Kulgam were killed in a militant attack in Anantnag district earlier in the day. “They were staying in a secure hotel accommodation at Kulgam until recently and were allowed to stay at their house on their request,” he said.

The top police officer who visited the spot said Lashker-e-Toiba was behind the attack in which Ghulam Rasool Dar (Sarpanch) and his wife Jawahira, a Panch, from Redwani Kulgam, were killed.

Pertinently, the militants shot dead the BJP leader and his wife after barging inside their rented accommodation at Lal Chowk Anantnag this afternoon. The duo received critical injuries in the attack and was removed to GMC Anantnag. However, they were declared brought dead on the arrival at the hospital, the officials added.

Meanwhile police reached the spot and along with security forces cordoned off the entire area.
