Blaze kills 13 patients in Mumbai’s Covid-19 hospital

Srinagar: At least 13 patients died in a fire incident at a Covid-19 hospital in Mumbai’s Vijay Vallabh Hospital on Friday morning. The incident occurred at around 3 am.

Reports said that within 5 minutes, the Vasai Virar Corporation fire brigade reached the spot and by 5:20 am firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.

According to Indian Express report fire broke out out in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital, which is treating Covid-19 patients.

“The next of kin of each of the victims will be given Rs. 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, PM Narendra Modi’s office announced. Meanwhile, all those who were seriously injured in the fire will receive Rs. 50,000,” the report reads.

The fire started in the air conditioning unit of the hospital’s ICU, where as many as 18 patients were admitted at the time.

“The remaining patients  are being shifted to other hospitals. At least 21  patients were moved to nearby hospitals following the fire,” report said.
