Srinagar, Mar 27: Two unidentified militants and a soldier were killed while two other soldiers were injured in a gunfight at Wangam area in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.
Official sources said that based on specific information about the presence of the militants, a joint team of police and army launched a cordon- and-search-operation in the area.
As the joint team approached the suspected spot, they said, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off a gunfight.
Two militants were killed so far while three army soldiers received injured in the initial phase of the gunfight. The injured were shifted to hospital to army’s 92-base hospital where one among them succumbed. The identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained, they said. “One M4 Rifle was also recovered from the slain militant,” they said.
Meanwhile reports said that internet services have been suspended in the south Kashmir district.
