Srinagar, Dec 30: Residents of Kremshore and adjoining areas in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday alleged that their landline phones are not functioning properly and demanded higher authorities to look into it. “Sometimes there is no dial tone. At times, there is continuous beep,” said a delegation of locals said. “The local exchange is manned by one person who was basically meant for non technical works. He is to do everything and in absence of the required knowledge, there are more issues than solutions,” the delegation claimed. A local BSNL official said that batteries are not working properly, causing issues regarding dial tone etc. “Due to non-availability of the electricity, we have to run gen set and that too cannot be run continuously,” the official said, adding, “The issues would have been resolved had the batteries been replaced.” He said local authorities have also submitted a proposal regarding it and it hangs fire from last more than three months.   Asked about the allegations by people regarding one person manning the entire exchange and him lacking the technical knowledge, the official refused to comment. When contacted, a senior officer of the BSNL here said that he will look into the matter. (GNS)
