Srinagar, Sep 1: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two persons “involved” in grenade blast at Baramulla on an army convey which missed the target and exploded on roadside in which seven civilians were injured.
A police spokesperson said that that subsequently a case (FIR NO 147/2020) under section 307 IPC,7/27 I.A Act,18,20,39 ULA(P) Act was lodged and investigation was set into motion.
“During the course of investigation, on the basis of human and technical intelligence, a joint operation was launched by 46 RR, 53 CRPF and Baramulla Police in which two suspects namely Fayaz Ahmad Kumar alias Narsimha of Khanpora Baramulla and Aqib Sharif Bhat alias DK of Syed Kareem Baramulla were detained and after sustained interrogation they revealed that they lobbed the grenade on insistence of (militants) of LeT outfit,” the spokesperson said.
“The aim of lobbing the grenade was to disturb order and vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in Baramulla and to motivate the youth into (militants) ranks and their sympathisers.”
It is pertinent to note, the spokesperson said that both accused are “habitual history-sheeters.”
Fayaz, he said, has 37 FIRs registered against his name and has been detained under PSA seven times in past. Aqib Sharif Bhat has three FIRs registered against his name, he added.
“ As per the investigation which is still continuing, their aim was to revive militancy in Baramulla town for which they have been directed by the mentors across LOC and their arrest is a big success in terms of maintaining peace and tranquillity in the town Baramulla,” he said, adding, “The Case is under investigation and further leads are expected.”
