Srinagar: Authorities have ordered closure of all schools in Kashmir Valley on Monday in wake of the situation following killing of Hizbul Mujahideen’s top commander along with his two associates in a gun fight with government forces at Shopian in south Kashmir on Sunday.
“We have decided to close all schools in Kashmir Valley on Monday,” education minister Syed Altaf Bukahri told INS. Two civilians—Owias Ahmad Dar and Mohammad Sayeed have been killed in forces action on protests against the killing of Hizb’s commander Mohammad Yasin Yatoo alias Mehmood Gznavi along with his two associates at Zainapora.
A police spokesman confirmed Dar’s killing due to pellets. “Today in the evening after the encounter ended in Shopian, a mob started pelting stone on forces in Kakapora who were on their way back from the encounter site. While dealing with the mob, one youth identified as Owais Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Shafi resident of Kakapora suffered pellet injuries. The injured was shifted to Srinagar hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries,” the spokesman added.
Kashmir University has suspended class work in all teaching departments and has also postponed all examinations scheduled for Monday. “Fresh dates for the deferred examinations shall be notified separately, later,” a spokesman of the varsity said.
