Mudasir Maqbool
Shopian: An army soldier was injured as gunfight between militants and government forces continued in Pandushah village of this south Kashmir district on Friday.
Reports and official sources said a joint team Army’s 34 Rashtriya Rifles, police’s SOG and paramilitary CRPF launched a joint cordon and search operation in the village following “credible inputs” about the presence of militants.
They said militants hiding in the area opened fire on the joint team which was retaliated, leading to an encounter at around midnight. There was lull after ‘initial contact’ and fresh fire resumed at the crack of dawn, they said.
One army soldier was injured in initial firing and was shifted to Srinagar military hospital for treatment, they said. Intermittent firing was going on from both sides when this report was filled. Internet services have been snapped in entire district as a precautionary measure, officials said.
