Says ‘Tempers Down’ In Kashmir, Militants Cannot Beat India Into Submission
Srinagar: Governor Satya Pal Malik on Sunday said militants “should kill those who have looted entire wealth of Kashmir” even as he noted that situation in Kashmir was better and that for the first time in last three decades, Hurriyat Conference did not call for a strike on the visit to the Valley by Home Minister.
Speaking at a function in Kargil, Malik, the senior BJP leader, said that militants were losing their life in vain and underlined that dialogue and not the gun was the way out to resolve “issues”.
“The youth wielding guns are vainly killing own people. They kill PSO, SPOs. Why you kill them? Kill those who have looted entire wealth of Kashmir. Have you killed anyone of them?,” he said addressing a function in Kargil.
“They (militants) are losing their life in vain as nothing will come out it. No issue can be resolved through gun. Nobody in India can beat the country into submission. LTTE was once the most powerful terrorist organisation in the world but stands destroyed now,” he said while inaugurated Kargil Ladakh Tourism Festival-2019 at Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium Kargil.
“You (militants) cannot fight governments like this. Dialogue is the way forward and you will get everything.”
He said some leaders threaten government in New Delhi and in Valley “they provoke people”.
“We tell them speak one language. Either the one in New Delhi or the one they use here.”
He said the local militants are not trained enough and does not possess good weapons.
“They (militants) are kids. Now 200-225 are left and around 125 are Pakistanis and whenever there is encounter, it takes to 2 to 3 hours to kill a militant because they are not trained and have no good weaponry.”
He said the militants “are not told about Azadi and or autonomy but Deobandi preachers promise them heaven after death”.
“I cannot question your religious belief. But, I can give you two heavens instead of the one promised to you by your ‘maulvis’. I can give you Kashmir, which emperor Jehangir by stepping down from horse said that if there is a paradise on earth, it’s this, it’s this, it’s this,’ he said, adding, “Take this Kashmir and develop it. Your kids are intelligent and they are good doctors and if you live like good human beings, you will get another heaven after your death. Why die with gun.”
He expressed satisfaction over the change in the ground situation in Kashmir, saying that the people are now talking of peace.
“In Valley, there is better situation now. Tempers of people are down and they talk wisdom. First time in 30 years, there was no bandh (strike) called by the Hurriyat Conference and when I said that Kashmiri Brahmans (Kashmiri Pandits) should be brought back to Kashmir, Hurriyat Conference chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that he too believe that they should be brought back.”
Information department adds
According to the state’s information department, Governor observed that the twin districts of Kargil and Leh of Ladakh Division have huge tourism potential and emphasized on organizing more events like the Tourism Festival to promote the diverse tourism opportunities available in the region.
Governor said that the expansion work of Kargil Airport for which Rs 200 crores have already been sanctioned will be taken up soon.
“This will not only provide round the year connectivity but also give a new dimension to the tourism sector in the region,” he added.
Governor said that the State Administration was committed for the holistic development of Ladakh division and concrete measures are underway to pursue this goal.
“Government is taking strict measures to bring transparency in the system and removing various bottlenecks in the path of progress and development,” he added.
Governor, on the occasion, announced the establishment of two degree colleges for Kargil district including a Women’s Degree College. He said that a 2500 MW solar power project will be starting soon to augment power sector in Kargil.
He also inspected and “appreciated” the various stalls of local handicrafts, handloom, agricultural and horticulture products, ethnic food and ancient artefacts which had been put up by various Government departments and social groups.
