Pampore: Residents in Pampore town of Pulwama district are up in arms against the authorities for failing to repair the protection bunds of jehlum, which were damaged in the 2014 floods.
The residents have said that the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) department Kashmir has not done anything to repair the damaged bunds in river jehlum due to which they suffer.
A delegation of locals living on the banks of river and its adjoining areas have said that, “whenever it rains the areas are getting waterlogged” due to which they are facing inconveniences.
“The bunds in Pampore which were totally damaged or weakened in 2014 floods are yet to be repaired. Unfortunately government has not woken up to address this genuine demand,” a local resident said.
The residents demanded that all the damaged bunds should be repaired & reconstructed to mitigate the problems being faced by the Pampore residents.
Executive Engineer Flood Control department in Pampore, Mukhtar Ahmad Shah, told INS that bunds were earlier constructed by R&B department and its now their duty to repair & reconstruct them.
He said that Flood control department has already communicated with them and asked them to initiate the repairing process for the bunds.
