Srinagar: A shutdown is being observed in Kashmir Valley amid official restrictions in several parts of Old Srinagar and other ‘sensitive’ parts following a shutdown called by Joint Resistance Leaders on the third anniversary of Burhan Wani, the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander who was killed in an encounter with government forces on this day in 2016.
Report said that shops and other business establishments are mostly closed while public and private transport is largely off the roads. All schools and colleges are also closed, they said.
Restrictions have been imposed in Old City areas falling under the jurisdiction of police stations of Rainawari, MR Gunj, Khaniyar, Safa Kadal and Nowhatta. Sources said that barricades have been placed to prevent movement of people.
Also authorities have snapped internet services in south Kashmir districts of Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian and Kulgam. Elsewhere, internet speed has been reduced. Also trains services to and fro Banihal to Baramulla have been suspended by the railway authorities.
