Srinagar: Union Home Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Amit Shah who is on two-day visit to the Valley Thursday asked party cadre to work tirelessly to put an end to the militancy and drug addiction in Kashmir.

Sources privy to the development said that a party meeting chaired by Amit Shah was held at SKICC here at 02:00 Pm wherein various issues were discussed.

Reliable sources said that the BJP workers here informed the Union Minister about the issues confronting to the people. They told The INS that development of Press Colony Srinagar as well as the accommodation for the senior journalists was also discussed in the meeting.

Sources further informed that the focus remained on the issues pertaining to the youth in the Valley, adding that the sufferings of youth as well as the rise in drug addiction and militancy related issues were also discussed.

They added that Shah has asked the party cadre to gear up and work tirelessly to ensure the return of youth who have joined the militant ranks, adding that the workers were also discussed to launch campaigns and take other steps to put an end to the drug addiction in Kashmir.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar for a two day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday afternoon. The Home Minister reviewed the overall security situation of the state and also discussed security arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. The month-and-a-half long annual Amarnath Yatra this year is scheduled to begin on July 1.

He also visited the residence of police officer who was recently killed in a militant attack in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

With Amit Shah’s first visit to the State as Union Home Minister, security agencies had enforced a security clampdown in and around Srinagar for the next two days.
