Srinagar: Amid reports of heavy rain for the next five days, the local Meteorological department here has rejected the prediction, saying that only light rainfall would occur in the Valley on June 22-23.

Talking to The INS, Deputy Director MeT, Mukhtar Ahmad said that there was no prediction of heavy downpour for the next five days, adding that only light rainfall would occur in Kashmir on June 22 and 23.

He added that there will be no threat of floods due to the next wet spell in the Valley.

Earlier, reports said that the Indian MeT department has predicted scattered rains and thundershowers on June 23 and 24, and isolated rains between June 20, 21 and 22 in entire Jammu and Kashmir regions.

Meanwhile, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC), Ashok Kumar Sharma told The INS that there was no need to panic as the department has taken adequate steps to prevent the flood like situation in the Valley. “We have taken adequate steps. We all well equipped and we are well prepared. We have increased the capacity of river here to prevent the 2014 like situation,” he said.

He added that on June 12, there was rise in the water level but the water was flowing at permissible level.
