Adequate medical facilities in place for Amarnath Yatra pilgrims: Sakeena

Kupwara: As people elsewhere are busy with preparations for Eid-ul-Fitr, the residents of Ahgam village In Rajwar Handwara on Monday morning staged protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department for failing to restore water supply to their area.
The protesters including women and children blocked the Behnipora-Rajwar road for several hours as a result of which traffic movement was disrupted. The protesters were demanding restoration of the water supply to their area.
“We’re being forced to drink contaminated water from a nearby stream. Despite knowing that the Eid is approaching, the department is least bothered about the restoration of water supply”, the protestors said.
The protesting residents sought intervention of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Ansul Garg in this matter. “We hope that Deputy Commissioner kupwara will look into the matter to mitigate our sufferings”, the locals said.
Handwara police reached the spot and pacified the protesters with the assurance that their demand would be taken up with the concerned officials.
