Srinagar: Police on Wednesday claimed that a militant holed up in a house surrendered before forces after ‘continuous persuasion’ at Chopan Mohalla of village Nagpathri Tral.

According to police they were acting on the specific information regarding the presence of militants in the area.

“During search presence of JeM militant was noticed in the house of one Mohd Akram Chopan S/O Ghulam Qadir Chopan and it came to fore that one newly joined JeM militant namely Mohd Maqbool Ganie S/O Mohammad Ganie R/O Gutango Tral is hiding inside the said house. The said hiding militant was challenged to surrender but he refused to surrender,” police said.

“The security forces maintained their calm and composure and continued their efforts to persuade the holed up militant to surrender which lasted for more than four hours,” they said.

According to police spokesman the militant had recently joined the outfit and is married person having two minor kids.

“Finally after hectic efforts, security forces were able to arrest the said militant and one Chinese pistol, one pistol magaxine and 06 rounds were recovered from his possession,” police said.

The operation search was carried out by Police along with 42RR and 180 BN CRPF in the said village.
