Srinagar: National Conference (NC) president and winner of Srinagar parliamentary seat, Dr Farooq Abdullah Thursday said that India and Pakistan must sit together to give peace a chance in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing media persons here at party headquarters, Abdullah who was flanked by NC Vice president Omar Abdullah and others thanked people across the Valley for helping the party candidates to emerge victorious from three Lok Sabha seats.
He said that this parliament will be difficult for the NC’s parliamentarians as they will have to fight against the evil designs that are hell bent to abrogate Article 370 and Article 35A, saying that the parliamentarians will also fight against the forces who are dividing the people in the country.
“We hope the new government in Delhi will do justice with Jammu and Kashmir and talk with the neighbouring country Pakistan to bring us out from the current situation,” he said.
He said that no steps are being taken at present to put an end to the border skirmishes, killings, use of pellet guns and “other things”. “The newly elected NC parliamentarians will work to bring Jammu and Kashmir out from the current mess.”
Abdullah also added that India and Pakistan must sit together to bring peace in the State.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters, Omar congratulated Narendra Modi for being re-elected as Prime Minister of the country and hoped that he will soften his stand on Kashmir and start a fresh dialogue with Pakistan.
“Country has re-elected Narendra Modi again as Prime Minister despite opposition parties having tried hard during elections to defeat BJP and NDA. We also tried hard in Kashmir and won three seats. We would have won the Ladakh seat also but Congress conspired and helped BJP win the seat,” Omar said, adding that Kashmiris have suffered a lot during the five year rule of BJP.
