Sopore: Sopore has been turned into an open garbage dumping area as the sweepers of Municipal Council Sopore are on strike since 11 consecutive day.
They are demanding regularisation of services.
The whole Sopore is filled with garbage, and with each passing day the accumulation is creating problems.
Residents fear, if authorities remain callous towards the issue, major disease outbreak will not be far.
“The areas, streets, road and even heaps of garbage are lying at the gates of MC gates. They are not bothered about problems of general public,” residents said.
The protesting employees, demanding regularisation accuse Executive officer Sopore of misleading by claiming ‘lack of funds’.
Executive officer Sopore Lateef Ahamd Mir Sopore, refuted allegations saying ‘they are baseless’.
“Employees are being provoked against me. A case has also been registered by police in this regard,” Mir said.
Locals appeals Director of Urban Local bodies and State Governor Satya Pal Malik to identify the dumping yard for the district that could help the district.
