Srinagar: The public works in the government departments have allegedly come to a halt with locals claiming that no work is being done by the officials in the different departments, citing Lok Sabha elections in the State. The seven-phased Lok Sabha polls are commencing from April 11.

The locals while talking to INS alleged that officials in the government departments here are clearly refusing to perform the public works, claiming that such works will be done once the elections are over.

They added that they have been going from pillar to post in the governments to ensure that their work is done but “the officials in the departments are asking us to come after elections as such works are not being carried out at present in view of elections.”

The officials as per the locals have also claimed that most of their employees are busy in elections process; therefore such works can only be done after the elections will culminate.

“We are being pushed to the wall and are facing tremendous hardships due to the halt in public works at the department,” the locals told INS, appealing the authorities to look into the matter and fulfill their demands at an earliest so that they could heave a sigh of relief.

However, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan the public related works are being carried out normally. “In view of Model Code of Conduct (MCC), the release of amount and allotment can’t be done at present while the rest of the works are going on normally,” he added.
