Poonch: An army officer who was injured yesterday in cross-LoC firing succumbed today while the armies of India and Pakistan continue to trade fire along the de-facto border for third consecutive day.
The officer identified as JCO Shashi Kumar was injured yesterday in Pakistan firing at Nowhshera Tehsil of Rajouri district. After remaining in critical condition, he succumbed today at an army hospital. Another soldier was also killed yesterday in same sector.
Meanwhile, the India and Pakistan armies exchanged fire in Mendhar Tehsil of Poonch district and in Rajouri district. Reports said that the firing was reported from Balakote sector and Manjkote sector. A civilian identified as 20-year-old Ahmad Raza, son of Abdul Hamied in Balakote sector was injured due to firing. He was rushed to hospital for treatment.
In Kashmir, the armies of India and Pakistan traded gunfire along LoC in Naugam sector of Handwara in Kupwara district. The exchange of fire continued intermittently between the two sides when reports last came in. (GNS)
