Kupwara: A gunfight between militants and government forces broke out after over twelve hours of siege at Yaroo Langate in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday.

Sources said army’s 30 RR, CRPF and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation following ‘credible inputs’ regarding the presence of militants in the area last night.

Almost after 12 hours after the CASO, the militants hiding in the area fired upon the joint team which was retaliated by them, triggering off an encounter.  The gunfight was going on when this report was filed.

Meanwhile ADDC Handwara has ordered the closure of degree college, boys and girls higher secondary school Handwara, boys and girls higher secondary school Langate while section 144 has been imposed around the gunfight site. However, all the examinations shall be held as per schedule, the officer said.
