Anantnag: Kashmiri Pandits living in Vessu Kulgam protested in the courtyard of Vessu colony against Government failing to provide them with basic facilities in the colony.
“Prime Minister’s package for Pandits is a failure,” they said.
They said, out of 512 new proposed flats, the Government managed to complete five flats only.
This, they say, is a grim reflection of government’s seriousness over rehabilitation of the Pandits.
At least 220 dilapidated pre-fabricated huts houses, more than 426 migrant families.
According to Girja Raina, a resident of the colony the Government has divided our families, Girja Raina said, our parents and children live outside.
“We have to share our accomodation,” Raina told INS.
They had been promised independent accommodations but the five constructed flats are occupied by presidents, Corporater’s, sarpanchs, belonging to Pandit community from different political parties.
“Both state and central governments have done nothing for us to facilitate our return to the Valley,” Kiren Jee said.
She said that the Governments have only played politics over their plight and fake promises have only added to the ‘cruel joke government plays with us’.
“Leave aside big announcements they make, we are deprived of proper portable water even,” she lamented.
According to Kiran, they have given partition in one room and three families are living in one room with one kitchen and one bathroom.
” There is no privacy for families,” she rued.
The protesting Pandit community said that they are demanding ‘basic facilities and amenities to the colony’.
“Stand to grand promises and gestures Governemnts Central and state brags about. This colony is your test,” protesters said.
