Old city shuts against ‘custodial killing’ of Jamat-e-Islami associate

Srinagar: Old city parts and Maisuma area of Lal Chowk observed spontaneous shutdown against the death of a school teacher from Awantipora in police custody on Tuesday.

Witnesses told KNO that the shopkeepers downed their shutters in downtown areas as the announcement was made from historic Jamia Masjid asking people to observe shutdown against the alleged custodial killing.

Rizwan Ahmad died in the police custody days after being arrested by the NIA slueths.

Reports said that Rizwan’s family is associated with Jamat e Islami and his father is a basic member of the recently banned socio religious organisation.

Similarly shutdown was also observed in Maisuma.

Family of the slain youth have termed it ‘custodial killing and a cold blooded murder’.
