Srinagar: Police on Friday arrested a teacher after a video regarding corporal punishment by him to a minor went viral on social media.
“A video was found in circulation on social media sites depicting inflicting of corporal punishment by a teacher to the minor children purportedly studying in Hajad Public School Awantipora,” a police spokesman said.
He said Police took the cognizance in the matter as the acts of the teacher were disclosing commission of cognizable offences.
Accordingly Case FIR No.35/2019 U/Ss 323,341,352,355 RPC and 24 The Jammu and Kashmir Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection Of Children)Act 2013 was registered at Police Station Awantipora and investigation set in to motion.
“During the course of investigation the identity of accused teacher came out to be as of one Farooq Ahmad Lohar son of Saif-ud-Din of Pogal Paristan in District Ramban who was apprehended and during questioning the accused confessed his crime,” said the spokesman.
The necessary steps aimed at taking investigation of the case to its logical conclusion including forwarding of video in question for analysis and expert opinion are being taken.
“Police is committed to show zero tolerance to any such physical or mental punishment through humiliating methods to school going children.”
It is now globally recognised that punishment in any form in the schools comes adversely in the way of development of full potential of school going children, the spokesman added.
