Kupwara: Army on Thursday afternoon opened the Lolab gate for vehicular movement. The gate remained closed for over a week.
People had been demanding reopening of the roadway.
An official told INS that the decision to reopen the road was taken to facilitate the general public.
“And not to cause any inconvenience in the smooth vehicular movement. People had complained of moving through bypass”.
According to an official in the district administration the gate will remain open for the vehicles traveling towards Lolab while as the vehicles coming from Lolab and Kalaroose towards Kupwara will ply from bypass.
“This will lead to smooth traffic without any disruption and problem to residents,” he said.
The road will remain open for vehicular movement from 09:00 Am in the morning to 05:00 PM in the evening including for light motor vehicles and Heavy motor vehicles.
However, he said, frisking will be conducted for security purposes.

The gate was closed in wake of security threats, officials claimed, after deadly Pulwama attack in which more than 40 CRPF personnel were killed. A suicide bomber had detonated explosives laden car while their convoy was moving at Lethpora area of Pulwama.
