Jammu: India and Pakistan on Thursday exchanged heavy fire across the Line of control (LoC) in Nowshera, Mendhar and Rajouri in Jammu division, officials said.

Reports said that exchange of fire has been going on since early morning and when reports last came in, the firing continued intermittently.

Defence ministry officials alleged that Pakistan initiated “unprovoked ceasefire violation” by shelling mortars and firing small arms following which Indian army retaliated “effectively and strongly”. Meanwhile, the local administration have shut all educational institutions within 5 km of the LoC and the international border in Samba, Poonch and Rajouri districts.
