Srinagar:  The weather system across Jammu and Kashmir will intensify and peaks in the night with heavy showers expected in Jammu division, meteorological department said here on Thursday.

“Heavy spell of rain/snow/ thunder storm is expected from Kathua to Banihal from today afternoon to tomorrow morning,” a senior MeT official said.

He said Srinagar – the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir – recorded a minimum temperature of 1.0 degrees Celsius against 0.2 degrees Celsius, normal for night for this time of the season.

The official said the mercury in Qazigund and Kokernag towns in south Kashmir settled at a low of 0.8 degrees Celsius and minus 0.4 degrees Celsius respectively.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of 0.1 degrees Celsius, he said.

Gulmarg, the famous ski-resort in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 5.0 degrees Celsius while the famous health resort of Pahalgam registered a minimum of minus 0.3 degrees Celsius.
