Amid gunbattle, clashes erupt in Kulgam village, internet snapped

Srinagar: Fierce gunbattle is going on between militants and goverment forces in Keelam area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday morning.

Reports said that a joint team of army’s 9RR, SOG Kulgam and CRPF launched cordon and search operation in Keelam area after having credible input about presence of some militants in the area.

As the joint team of forces intensified searches towards suspected spot the hiding militants fired upon goverment forces triggering an encounter.

Meanwhile internet has been suspended in Kulgam for precautionary measures.

Clashes erupted in the area between protesters and forces.

Youth pelted stones on forces trying to help holed militants to escape.

“As youth tried to engage forces in pitched battle they were tear gassed,” local sources said.

Clashes were going on in the area amid fierce firing being exchanged between militants and forces.
