Official said that army’s 44 RR, CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of police cordoned off Baba Mohalla of Drabgam village at around 7:30 pm. The government forces also installed lights so as to prevent militants from fleeing owing to darkness, they said. As the forces intensified searches, militants hiding in the area opened fire on the joint team, leading to a gunfight in the area. The firefight was going on when reports last came in.

Meanwhile, the internet was suspended in Pulwama and Shopian district as soon as government forces snipped possibility of the encounter with the militants.
