Srinagar: As the ‘peace talks’ between US and Taliban has taken its shape from last couple of weeks, the mainstream political parties in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday pitched for dialogue to resolve the Kashmir issue, once and for all.
The mainstream political leaders affiliated with different political parties here said that talks between India and Pakistan are must to end the sufferings of people of Kashmir.
Talking to INS, National Conference (NC) provincial president, Nasir Aslam Wani said talks between US and Taliban is a welcome step.
“We have been listening to the claims that talks for resolution of Kashmir are going to be started but on ground nothing has happened. The talks over Kashmir issue are the only way to end the sufferings of people. This is the high time when time when our demands for talks should be fulfilled,” he said.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice-President, G N Monga said that the BJP government in the centre was responsible for the halt of talks on “bilateral” issue.
He said that the previous regimes had taken initiatives to resolve the issue by engaging in talks on different platforms but all efforts came to an end after the present regime took over. “Talks are must and only way forward to resolve the issues. At this time, Pakistan is in favour of talks and India must reciprocate over the repeated offers so that the issue can be resolved once for all,” he added.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesman said that Government of India must give Kashmir a priority. “Unless GoI will not give Kashmir priority, the issue cannot be resolved. Elections, development and other things are must but the talks for each and every cause like prisoners and others is also must. Those at the helm must take any initiative in this regard so that the issue will be resolved,” PDP chief spokesman Rafi Ahmad Mir said.
