Srinagar: The curfew like restrictions imposed by the government and the overwhelming response to the call for shut down by the Joint Resistance Leadership on maiden death anniversary of popular militant commander of Hizb ul Mujahideen crippled normal life across Kashmir today.
Shutdown was also observed in muslim dominated areas of Chenab particularly Bhaderwah district on the call of joint resistance leadership.
Meanwhile the Director General Police Dr S. P Vaid has thank people for their cooperation in maintaining law and order and announced that broadband internet services will be restored by evening today.
Confirming the restrictions were imposed in parts of Kashmir valley, a government official here on Saturday said that the restrictions under section 144 CrPc were imposed in most parts of the Valley today to thwart any untoward incident on the maiden anniversary of Burhan Wani.
Meanwhile, strict curfew was imposed in Tral, the native village of Burhan Wani.
Reports quoting witnesses said the army conducted flag marches in Tahab and Puchil areas of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
All the shops, public transport and other businesses remained closed while the private as well as the public transport was off the roads in the uptown areas of Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley where the restrictions or curfew was not in force.
Notably, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had called for a complete shutdown today to mourn the death of Wani and his two associates.
Meanwhile, no Amarnath pilgrim was allowed to move to Kashmir from Jammu on Saturday as the authorities said the ongoing Amarnath Yatra has been suspended for the day and train services between Baramulla and Bannihal town were also suspended for security reasons.
The educational institutes including the Kashmir University had also postponed all the exams scheduled for today.
In view of the Burhan’s anniversary, the authorities had also suspended both the mobile and the broadband internet services .The services were suspended Friday evening while the services were operational occasionally since Thursday evening .
Meanwhile, leaders and activists from resistance camp and the people of all hues visited the residence of Burhan Wani and paid tributes to the slain Hizb commander there.
Meanwhile, clashes and the protests broke out at various places in the Valley today during which the forces already deployed on the roads used tear gas canisters dispersed the agitating youth.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Kashmir Range, S P Pani told KNS that the situation remained peaceful throughout the day barring few minor incidents in Tral and Pulwama areas.
“People had gathered at the house of Burhan Wani to offer prayers for his souls and offer condolences to the family. Police asked the people to disperse and leave the place, but some youth resorted to sloganeering and stone throwing due to which clashes erupted. Eight persons were injured during the clashes,” Pani told KNS.
Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid told KNS that the situation across the Valley remained peaceful and under control. ” Some persons were placed under preventive custody today while normal checking was also done”, he said.
He also thanked the people for cooperating in maintaining the law and order situation today, which helped police to ensure peaceful situation throughout the day.
Muzaffar Wani, the father of slain Hizb Commander Burhan Wani told KNS correspondent, Tasaduq Rashid that all excess were committed by army and did not allowed people from far flung areas to reach Tral for participating in the congregational fateh of Burhan.
He also said that Tral area and particularly his house was completely sealed by army which harassed the people also. (KNS)
