Kupwara: Education department  has withdrawn its order of banning officials to wear Pheran while on duty after the department had to face heat from different quarters.
Sources said that the controversial order was withdrawn by the orders of Chief Education Officer Kupwara Shafiq Nabi War.
Officials from education department  of zone Langate were on duty wearing Pheran, plastic shoes, sleepers, that had prompted the officials to issue an order however as heated debate over the order turned into a controversy, the education department rolled back its order.
The order had said that all the officials visiting the office are advised to visit the office by proper dress code during any officai visit.
“It is recommended that no official will visit this office wearing ‘Feran’ traditional trousers, Sleepers and plastic shoes,” the order had said.
The order generated a heated debate online and  former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, said: ” I fail to understand why pherans should be banned! This is a regressive order that makes no sense at all. Pherans are a very practical way of keeping warm during the cold winter aside from being part of our identity. This order should be withdrawn”.
In this regard when contacted Chief Education Officer Kupwara Shafiq Nabi War,said: “The order issued from the office of ZEO langate is hereby withdrawn. The order was issued to curb the practice of wearing Feran during official visit”.
