Will approach Pak to take back Naveed’s body: DGP

Srinagar: Director General of Police (DGP), Dilbagh Singh on Wednesday said that Pakistan will be approached to take back the body of a top slain Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, Naveed Jatt who was killed in Budgam encounter today.

Addressing a news conference here at PCR, DGP Singh who was accompanied by IGP Kashmir Range said that they will approach Pakistan through competent authorities and ask them to claim the body of Jatt.

Singh said that the slain commander was the prime suspect of Editor-in-chief, Shujaat Bukhari’s killing. “If he could have been arrested alive many more things could have come to fore but since he was killed in the gunfight today, the things were not clear but the investigation is still going on over the killing of Shujaat Bukhari and the details will be made public once the investigation is completed,” police said.

The top LeT commander was active since long in the Valley and was killed in the gunfight today, DGP said, adding that his killing was a big success as atrocities on civilians was being committed on his directions, saying people will heave a sigh of relief after the killing of Naveed Jatt.

“From last one month, over two dozens of militants were killed while as there was no fresh recruitment in the militancy,” he said, adding that people have understood the futility of violence.

He added that people are much cooperative and the decrease in stone pelting incidents clearly indicate their cooperation.

DGP Singh further added that they try to ensure no collateral damaged during the operations, saying that minor injuries are still taking place but “we want to appeal the youth to stay away from the encounter sites.”

He added that militants are posting pictures and videos on sisal media to attract more youth in the militancy, saying that the picture recently uploaded by a militant near Lal Chowk was take n a long back but “they (militants) still posted that to show the courage to motivate youth.”
