Srinagar: A 14-year-old girl who was critically injured in a shootout in Khudwani area of Kulgam district on Thursday morning, succumbed to wounds at a hospital in Srinagar, official sources said on Saturday.
They said Muskan Jan of Wangud-Qaimoh was operated upon at the SMHS hospital in Srinagar and was in coma.
She was declared dead by the doctors around midnight, the officials added.
A police official said that militants fired several shots at an army camp stationed in a part of the Rice Research Institute of Sher-e-Kashmir Agriculture University’s (SKUAST) campus at Khudwani on Thursday morning.
“The army retaliated, leading to a brief exchange of fire. Muskan was unfortunately caught in crossfire and sustained bullet injury,” he said.
She was removed to a sub-district hospital in Qaimoh where doctors referred to the SMHS hospital in Srinagar where she was operated upon by the doctors.
