Former Chief Secretary Iqbal Khanday dead

Srinagar: Former Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khanday (IAS), has passed away, family sources said on Monday.  Khanday breathed his last at SKIMS at around 3 a.m., they said. Survived by wife and daughter, Khanday was the first IAS recruit from Jammu and Kashmir. A 1978-batch IAS officer, Khanday served as Principal Secretary to late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed during his term as Chief Minister in PDP-Congress Government.
He rose to the level of Chief Secretary in 2013 during National Conference-Congress Government headed by then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He remained posted as Chief Secretary from 18 February 2013 to 31 August 2015.
