Srinagar sees season’s coldest night, Gulmarg in 6 years

Srinagar witnesses coldest night of the season

Srinagar: While this summer capital of the state recorded season’s coldest night so far, Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort , had its coldest night in six years.
A meteorological department official said the night temperature plunged to minus 6.6 degree Celsius in Gulmarg , marking it the coldest night in six years. On 28 November 2012, the mercury dropped to minus 7.5 degrees Celsius in the world famous resort of north Kashmir. The coldest night ever recorded during the November was minus 10 on 29th day in 1996.
On 10 November 2009, the mercury plummeted to minus 9 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg, the official said, adding the coldest night for the calendar season in last five years included minus 6.2 degrees Celsius on 20 November 2017, minus 3.0 degrees Celsius on 10 November 2016, minus 5.6 degrees Celsius on 5 November 2015, 0.04 Degrees Celsius on 28 November 2014 and minus 4.2 degrees Celsius on 2 November 2013.
Srinagar saw season’s coldest night at minus 2.2 degrees Celsius while Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 5.2 degree Celsius, lowest in five year for the world famous tourist resort in south Kashmir.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius while southern Kashmir’s Qazigund, the gateway town of Valley, and Kokernag witnessed minimum of minus 2.8 and minus 1.7 degree Celsius respectively.
