The locals from Srinagar areas mostly from Old City complained of inundation of the roads in the interiors of their respective areas, saying that they are facing immense hardships due to the inundation caused due to incessant rainfall.

The rains lashed plains since Thursday evening while as the higher reaches experienced a fresh snowfall. The plains including Srinagar, the summer capital of the state also experienced first snowfall of the season.

Deputy Director Meteorological (MeT) department, Mukhtar Ahmad informed INS that the department is predicting wet weather till November 04, saying that there would be significant improvement in weather conditions from Sunday evening and the weather would remain dry for the next upcoming week here.

The rain as well as the snowfall here has brought the temperature further down.

Meanwhile, the incessant rains caused water logging in several city areas.

“SMC is in deep slumber as they have failed to look into the miseries of the local population. They should have at least refurbished the poor drainage system so that the problems faced by the people here would be solved once for all,” locals said, adding that they are being pushed to walls due to the poor drainage system in their area.

Accusing higher ups for ignoring their plights, the inhabitants here have demanded immediate redressal of their genuine grievances.

Notably, the students who had to appear in the examinations today also faced hardships today as the roads were inundated at most of the places.

Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) commissioner, Peerzada Hafizullah while talking to INS said that the corporation has already taken steps to dewater the areas.

“Though the situation at present is under control, but we have deputed teams at various places to dewater the areas the water was submerged,” he said, adding that he is himself monitoring the situation and visited a lot of places since morning.

He said that any area that has got submerged will be dewatered shortly.
