Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik has said that Srinagar city will get a mayor who is foreign educated.
He made a revelation in an interview with New Delhi based NDTV on Monday evening.
“Nothing will change by waiting,” he told the interviewer when asked, why didn’t the government wait to get NC and PDP on board for the Urban Local Bodies polls.
Both the parties, Jammu and Kashmir National conference and Peoples Democratic Party have boycotted the elections citing the hearing of article 35-A in Supreme Court of India.
“These parties (NC and PDP) are regretting that (they) are not participating. Because, in Srinagar they are getting a mayor who is foreign educated. He is a young leader and if he emerges, this will send jitter(s) to these parties,” he said.
The governor said that both the parties were ready to fight the elections without symbol.
“Mehbooba Ji, Farooq Abdullah, his son were ready to participate in the elections… if there is no symbol thing we will fight… but there was no consensus…”
He said that if there is less turnout the government was not responsible for it.
