All shops, business establishments, schools and colleges, petrol pumps in Chadoora town remained shut.

The shutdown also affected the movement of traffic as most of the public traffic remained off the roads.

“Scores of banners have been raised in the town and adjoining villages in memory of Itoo. Many people also visited Itoo’s family to express their solidarity with them,” witnesses said.

Itoo, a top Hizb commander was among three militants killed in an encounter with government in Awneera village of Shopian district last year.

Itoo took command of Hizb after death of Burhan Muzaffar Wani in 2016.
